You Add to P.E.O. is a fun initiative within the P.E.O. Sisterhood where chapters are challenged to add two or more active members by February 28, 2025. Chapters that meet this initiative are eligible for special recognition, including being featured on the P.E.O. website.
Chapter AD, Dell Rapids, South Dakota, was selected for March! As of March 1, the chapter had added 3 new members since the beginning of the initiative. Read below to learn more about the chapter.
What does your chapter do for fun?
Our chapter has done a variety of things for fun. This past year, our social committee planned a BIL Garbage Can Cookout. We also played Bingo at our local American Legion and had a movie night at our small-town movie theater.
Other outings from the past have been a boat excursion on Lake Madison, enjoying one of our local wineries, touring a local Little Farm Village and attempting axe throwing with our BILs! It doesn’t matter what we end up doing, we have tons of laughs when we are all together.
What has been your most successful fundraiser?
Every year in June, our chapter runs a food stand in the Dell Rapids City Park where the Quarry Days Car Show and other vendors are located. Our menu consists of the usual – BBQ sandwiches, hot dogs, chili dogs, chips, cookies and soda. The car show DJ is located right next to our shelter house and he plays fun music from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Sometimes we get carried away with song and dance while we make the food, which might be one of the reasons this fundraiser is so successful! … At least that’s what we like to think.
What is your best tip for finding new members?
Put yourself out there. Talk about P.E.O. Don’t keep it a secret. Think about the women in your community and the new ones you meet. They might have the qualities of a good P.E.O. and a good sister.
