You Add to P.E.O. is a fun initiative within the P.E.O. Sisterhood where chapters are challenged to add two or more active members. Chapters that meet this challenge are eligible for special recognition, including being featured on the P.E.O. website.
Chapter A, Portland, Oregon, was selected for June! As of June 1, the chapter had added 2 new members since March 1, 2022. Read below to learn more about Chapter OI, California.
What does your chapter do for fun?
We meet at a restaurant for lunch every fourth Monday of the month for good food and conversation. It’s also a good time to introduce a prospective member.
We usually have a summer party with our BILs and friends. It’s a fun time with lots of laughs.
In early September we spend several days at a retreat center at the Oregon coast. We have lunches at local restaurants, enjoy delicious home cooked meals, walk on the beach, shop in interesting stores, work on puzzles, read and just “hang out.”
What has been your most successful fundraiser?
We had a member who made scones and sold them at a local farmer’s market. One year she let us sell the scones at her booth, and we were able to give sizable donations to the P.E.O. projects.
What is your best tip for finding new members?
We find personal connections work best for us. Bringing P.E.O. into conversations, mentioning our activities and especially scholarships, loans, etc. that we have facilitated. If there is interest, then we invite them to our fourth Monday lunch. We also connect with potential members suggested by P.E.O. and transfers suggested by Reciprocity.
