During the 2019 Convention of International Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Iowa sisters proudly introduced an assembly of iconic metal sculptures named “Sisters” – calling to mind the unique personalities and relationship of P.E.O’s seven Founders.
Iowa City artist Justine Zimmer conceived, researched and fabricated these sculptures along with 2019 Decorations Chair Carol Casey and Elizabeth Garrels, past president, International Chapter. Several Iowa P.E.O.s also assisted in creating the artwork.
The dresses are on wheels and throughout the week of convention, volunteers moved them to different areas of the event center. At the conclusion of convention, Iowa State Chapter gifted the sculptures to International Chapter and they were moved to their new home at the P.E.O. Executive Office in Des Moines. If you visit the office, keep a look out for the seven sculptures. They are scattered throughout the building, making it almost a scavenger hunt to spy all seven.
